The summer in Barcelona is hot, really hot! If you add the temperatures, which rarely descend below 30ºC, to the usually high humidity rate, you better have good A/C at home or the beach /swimming pool at hand!
Surely you’ve noticed that the city is quite well designed to protect its citizens from the sun. First of all, there are the narrow, shadowed little streets. What a bliss, to take a walk through them in the summer. No direct sunlight, so these little streets are always quite cool.
The city offers quite a number of parks. The main one is that of the Ciutadella. Instead of a crammed beach, it may be better to take a siesta under a tree in the park!
You’ll have quite a lot of beach choices! But be aware, it may be difficult to find a free spot to lay your towel! We recommend getting a bit away from the center. You’ll find our article about the beaches outside Barcelona here.
With or without children
The Gardens of la Torre de les Aigües are a small man-made beach for children, protected from
the sun by big trees. You’ll be able to swim in a huge pool with very cold water. You’ll find all
the details here
The playground at the Ciutadella park, where your children will be able to swim in the small ponds and jump through the water jets. Don’t hesitate to read (or read again) our article about the Ciutadella Park.
The Creueta del Coll park is somehow far from the center and has a difficult access. If you have a car or if you wish to go for the day, don’t hesitate to do so! This park is huge. There, you’ll be able to ride a canoe, play volley, swim, make a picnic, and all that in the surroundings of Barcelona. You’ll find all the information here
The open air pool at Barceloneta (Club Natació Atlètic Barceloneta). The club has two pools, one of them open air with deck chairs. You’ll find all the information here
Our advice
If you’re renting a room or an apartment in Barcelona, don’t forget to buy a fan for your guests!
It’s Sunday, everything’s closed and it’s sizzling hot? Get a basin with cold water and put your feet in the water!
You’ll need an atomizer, a hat or cap and high sun block cream (the spray is more practical).
It’s important to drink at least 1 L of water every day (if you don’t like it, add some fruit and let it infuse overnight inside the fridge).
Don’t buy your umbrella at a bazaar shop, go to Decatlon instead. It will be more expensive, but you’ll be sure you’re UV protected.
Be careful with the numerous pickpockets in summer! No back packs. Favor bags and purses you may wear across your chest. Pick them with fastenings and always pay attention. Take
only the strictly minimum to the beach and always keep an eye on your belongings.
