Barcelona is doubtlessly a beautiful city, but sometimes there’s a need to get away, to take the car or the train and leave the city to discover its surroundings! Other beaches, other cities or towns… We try to take a little distance from the tourists to find ourselves in cozy environments, calm and pretty. We must warn you, it’s not so evident, since all the coastline is strongly tourist-oriented. At least you’ll be able to avoid the street vendors selling beer and fresh coconut!
Let us show you today our favorite places in the surroundings of Barcelona!
Sitges
To the north of Barcelona you’ll discover the beautiful city of Sitges! It’s completely different from Barcelona, even if, at the end, you’ll find a lot of tourists there, especially during the summer. The beach is very pretty and the city is brimming with bars and restaurants of all sorts!
How to get there :
Take the Renfe train leaving from Sants (one service approximately every 30 minutes; the trip takes 40 minutes more or less).
Gava
What we like best about Gava is the small beach and its colorful villas. It’s in fact a hotel. Is there something better than waking up facing the sea? If you climb the steps in the surroundings of the beach, you’ll find some bars and restaurants.
How to get there
Take the Renfe train leaving from Sants (one service approximately every 10 minutes; the trip takes 20 minutes more or less).
San pol del mar
To the south of Barcelona you’ll discover the town of San Pol de Mar. The waters are crystal clear, but the beach is made of rocks instead of sand! If you walk along the beach for a while, you may nevertheless find sand. This town has beautiful white houses, among which you may take a very pleasant stroll. This place isn’t invaded by tourism yet, so you won’t find any street vendor or masseurs!
How to get there
Take the Renfe train leaving from Sants or Arc de Triomf (one service approximately every 30 minutes; the trip takes 60 minutes more or less).
Badalona
We recommend to always go towards the sea. There’s a huge dock to go for a walk, lined with bars and restaurants.

Our beloved Tossa del Mar
Tossa is by far our favorite place. It’s of course in the Costa Brava. It’s a hilly town with lots of small beaches and coves all around the city, and there’s even a camping with its own cove! In the surroundings of Tossa there are forts, and you’ll be able to have a view of the town at night. It’s fantastic!
However, the area is very tourist-oriented. But we promise it’s worth a glance!
How to get there
Our recommendation is to rent a car. If not, it’s possible to get there by bus.
